Egypt`s Revolution !!

I read an article the other day in the online newspaper “economist” and it mentioned that Mubarak had resigned as Egypt`s president.

I thought you might be interested because this is one of the biggest revolutions in the world. About one million people protested against their president who governed about 32 years.

Basically what it says is that Egypt’s population fight for more democracy against the regime of Mubarak. The president tried to calm down the protestants but unfortunately they were too many. The people didn’t accept some revised versions on the regime, they have wanted a complete new government. Also the military was on the side of the population. Mr. Mubarak had finally resigned as their president after 18 days of nerve wracking tumult.

After Mr. Mubarak had resigned, he flew with his wife discreetly to his beach house in Sharm el Sheikh. Now, nobody knows, what the effects and results of that protests will be as well as what will be the action plan. For the time being, the head of the new command is likely to be the acting minister of defense, Field Marshall Hussein Tantawi. But the figure many expect to emerge to prominence is the army’s chief of staff, Sami Anan, a professional soldier who is widely respected in the army. Now the Egypts are not expected to repeat such a revolution but they expect a proper democracy for the future.

What surprised me most is the fact that the protest was organized by the social network facebook.

Words:
revised versions on the regime (überarbeitete Versionen des Regimes): It means that there is no new regime, but the old regime is updated.

revolution (politischer Umsturz): In this text it means a political change.

The right to bear arms !!

In our last lesson Farrah told us something about the American rights. Especially she told us about the right to bear arms. At the beginning she explained us some words so that we know what they mean.

Basically what she told us is that in history the Americans had to struggle against the British army because they wanted to be independent from the Britains. They were called Redcoats. After the fight against the British the Cowboys went into the west and built small farms. They needed the guns to fight against the natives and against wild animals. This live is called frontier life.

Furthermore Farrah also told us something about the Redneck stereotype. Rednecks drive very old cars, they drink beer all day long, they are uneducated, they all wear guns and they don’t care about what other people say about them. Rednecks wear very old clothes.

In my opinion it´s not a good idea that people could have weapons because than there would be not so much crime and killed people in America.
