Christmas traditions

Recently I read some articles in the online version "christmas-tradtions" and it talks about christmas traditions from countries all over the world.

I thaught you might be interested because we are not the only one who are celebrating the nativity.

Basically whats i talks about is that Brazil consists a lot of different people. The former colony are the Portuguese and they have some customs which originate from this heritage. One tradition is that they play a scene which shows the nativity. It says that they eat a huge Christmas dinner which includes turkey, ham, colored rice, and wonderful vegetables and fruit dishes. They decorate with flowers from the gardon and you can see a huge christmas tree with lot of lights in every big city.

As well the article talks about the christmasday in Russia. On Christmas Day, hymns and carols are sung. People gather in churches which have been decorated with the usual Christmas trees or Yelka, flowers and colored lights.

Post profits down

Yesterday I read an article in the online editoin of "austriantimes.at" and it talked about the Post which dropped their profit.

Basically what it said is that the sale went 3.4 per cent back to 1.732 billion Euros. As well the taxes fell nine per cent and the stock from 25 to 17 cents a stock. Post chief Georg Pölzl added that there is too much employees and lots of unprofitable post offices. So for that reason he wanted to fix costs and cut 1012 employees till the end of October 2009.

He said that further reductions will stabilized at 829.8 million euros.

What shocked me most is the fact that he wanted to close down 293 unprofitable post offices. Fortunately the infrastructure ministry forbid to close 144 until 2010 because this wouldn´t be positive for our economy. Furthermore, he pointed out that the negative impact on the post would continue if customers cut back on spending.

In my opinion it would be a shame if he closed 293 post offices. The employees need some time to search for a new job. As well I think he would activate a new post strike with that approach.

Vocable:

Sale (Absatz)
Taxes (Steuern)
Stock (Aktien)
Manpower (die Angestellten)
Reductions (Reduzierungen)
Approach (Vorgangsweise)
cheek (Frechheit)

Flora - Austria - Experences

Flora was in Austria. Yesterday she told us what was it like.

She said that there were a lot of things she learned about her own culture in Austria. She said as well that there a lot of missunderstandings about the clichées and she corrected them fractional. What she shocked most is the fact that the Austrians could smoke in public places. She told us that it would take her a long time to get used to this because in Irealand you are not allow to smoke where ever you want. But all in all she said that Austria is a nice place to live.

fractional (teilweise) = I translate the text fractional. Not all.

Press Review

I've just read an article on Austrian Times and it talks about Sat 1 Austria.

The television-channel has the top market share since the football-night on september the 17th of 2009. It is said that 406.000 people had watched the second half of the Europa League between Rapid Vienna and Hamburger SV (3-0), that was broadcast live by Sat 1 Austria.
Before Sat 1 Austria, the television-channel RTL held the world record with 634.000 viewers, who watched "Wer wird Millionär".

What surprised me most is the fact that the match of the not so famous teams had the biggest number of viewers and for example not the champions league final 2008 between Manchester United and Barcelona (0-2).

To my mind, Sat 1 Austria is going to increase there market share because of the replay between this two teams.

Press Review

I have just read an article at Austrian Times and it talks about the Inflation in May.

Austria reported today (Tues) that prices in May were 0.3 per cent higher than in April.

Futhermore the state statistics agency says that the May increase would have been 1.8 per cent if the prices of fuel and heating oil had not fallen by so much during the past year.

Experts says that the oil increases and that would be bad for the future Inflation.

The Austrian index for pensioners (PIPH) rose 0.7 per cent in May.

My opinion......

I think this is the beginning of the problems we will have in future. There should be a plan against this finacial crisis or otherwise there will be one factory after another which will have to close down of there financial meltdown.

Press Review

I have just read an article on Austrian Times and it talks about the Austrian banks which have raised their market share in neighbouring Slovenia.

Basically what it says is that The Slovene central bank Banka Slovenije reported today (Tues) that Bank Austria’s subsidiary UniCredit Slovenija had increased its market share last year from five per cent in 2007 to 6.1 per cent - the largest market share of any Austrian bank.

Futhermore the market share of Carinthian Zveza Bank remained unchanged at 0.1 per cent but Raiffeisen Bank saw its market share fall 0.2 of a percentage points to 2.8 per cent.

My opinion....

I think it´s very important that our banks raised their market in this bad financial crisis in which we are today. It could be the beginning of a new reboot of our economy.

We have just read an article on http://www.austriantimes.at/index.php?id=13617 about Red Bull which sales a soft drink with traces of cocaine in it.

Basically what it says it that the sale of Red Bull Cola improved.

Futhermore the Austrian Health Service said that there was no danger of being addicted besause there wasn´t enough in the drink. In five German provinces it is forbidden to sale Red Bull Cole.

My opinion....

I think there is no danger of being addicted because I believe the Austrian Health Service. I don´t drink Red Bull and so it doesn´t matter to me.

PRESS VIEW FRAMEWORK

I have just read Werner Leitner´s blog and it talks about Saint Patrick's Day.

Basically what it says it that the people in Ireland, Australia, the United States and New Zealand celebrate this day on 17th of March because of the fact that St. Patrick was the first catholic missionary in Ireland.

It also says that Saint Patrick's Day is celebrated by making parades and wearing the green. The first St. Patrick’s Parade was held in 1931 in Dublin

What surprised me most was the fact that the Chicago river is dyed green every year and they also drink green beer.

As for me I don´t celebrate St.Patrick´s Day but it I think it would be interesting.

ST. PATRICK`s DAY !!!

Saint Patrick was a Roman Britain-born Christian missionary and is the patron saint of Ireland, along with Brigid of Kildare and Columba.

Saint Patrick's Day (17 March) is an Irish holiday celebrated all around the globe to honor the patron saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick. Celebrations are generally themed around all things Irish and, by association, the colour green. They make huge parades, listen to nice Irish music, drink a lot of Guinness or "green" beer and eat typical Irish food.

DRESS CODESS

Students at school would always like to be free without rules and regulations. They want to wear the latest fashion, just to show their own individuality. There are some people against school uniforms but most of the community responds in very positive manner.

Advantages:
  1. no differences between rich and poor
  2. school uniforms might be less expensive than other clothes
Disadvantages:
  1. dress codes let all people look like the same and that would get boring
  2. maybe students would like to have their own style
My Opinion:

I can´t imagine to wear a school uniform, because I had to wear it every day and thats not normal. I am glad about, that our school doesn´t have dress codes and I hope we will never get some. All in all I can say, dress codes doesn´t show if your poor or rich but they stop your personality.
